Get Involved
We all want to live in a safe, stable neighborhood where our property values increase year after year. Studies show that “walkable” neighborhoods are associated with better health, community involvement and other positive impact. So, how can you make Southwest Garden better?
Become a member of your neighborhood association. The Southwest Garden Neighborhood Association (SWGNA) meets on a quarterly basis to discuss topics of concern, and membership is inexpensive. Your dues support the organization and it’s an easy way to meet your neighbors and keep informed!
Participate in the Neighborhood Watch Program.
Go for a walk or a bike ride and get to know your surroundings.
Introduce yourself and say hi to your neighbors.
Pickup the garbage that sometimes collects in the gutters, front yards, and alleys.
Volunteer to help maintain the shared spaces around the neighborhood.
Leave a porch light on all night to help eliminate the deep shadows that provide hiding spots for people up to no good.
Call the police when anything suspicious is going on. They won’t arrest people unless they’re doing something they’re not supposed to be doing.
Talk to your neighbors when something is happening that you don’t like. If that doesn’t solve it, call the Neighborhood Improvement Specialist.
Join Nextdoor, a social network restricted to our neighbors and share observations related to crime as well as news you think will be of interest to your neighbors.
Subscribe to news updates on this website and stay informed between quarterly meetings.
Support our local businesses. When you need services or products, please consider a business in the neighborhood and join our LinkedIn group to keep in touch with these businesses and other professionals in the neighborhood.
